What kind of pause do you sense God inviting you to? A daily pause? Pauses sprinkled throughout your day? Perhaps a weekly sabbath pause? A seasonal pause or a retreat pause? How about a sabbatical pause?

This month we’re exploring what happens between us and God when we pause. No matter what season of life you are in, this invitation to pause is for you. It’s the invitation to savor, to breath, to be present in the moment with God.

The weekly practices are prayerfully crafted to usher you into pauses each week with guided contemplation, lectio divina and an all-time favorite visio divina.

WEEK ONE: Pausing to be with God – Guided Contemplation

Journal Prompts

What do you notice in this experience?

If this felt difficult for you, perhaps pause to picture a memory when you experienced the presence of God with you. Savor that moment.

What do you sense God wants you to carry with you from this time?

WEEK TWO: Psalm 46:10 (ESV) Guided Contemplation

Journal Prompts

What was this like for you?

What did you notice within your heart, mind and body during this time?

WEEK THREE: Isaiah 30:15-18 (ESV) Lectio Divina

Journal Prompts

In what way is God inviting you to “returning and rest”, to “quietness and trust”?

In what way are you unwilling and resisting?

When you invite God into that resistance, what do you notice from God?

WEEK FOUR: Psalm 131:2 (ESV) – Visio Divina

Journal Prompts

What was significant for you in this painting and verse?

What do you sense God communicating to you?
