“The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul” (18:1).
I love the image of creating beautiful friendship bracelets and remembering the friendship of Jonathan and David. As you are taking very different colors and literally tying knots in them you are “knitting” them together. You are forming something beautiful. Like David and Jonathan, the different colors can remind us that friends who are very different can be used in each others’ lives and their friendship can be beautiful.
The love that David and Jonathan had for the Lord is what made their friendship so strong. The knots that held them together were strong because the Lord was in them.
As you make a bracelet for your friend, pray for the Lord to bless your friendship. Pray for wisdom to be a good friend to them.
Friendship bracelets are a fun activity to do with your friends! Gather your neighbors, teammates or women you would like to get to know more.
Supplies:
- Embroidery floss or string. You should be able to find this at a craft store, local market, or sewing/tailor shop. If your culture values embroidered clothing or goods, ask those craftsmen where to find embroidery floss.
- Clipboard, safety pin, or masking tape. You need something to hold the string in place as you create your bracelet!
- Beads or other small charms are optional.
There are many different patterns for creating your bracelet, ranging from simple to more complicated designs. It might be helpful to start out with an easy design that you can help others do as well. Check out this website for incredibly helpful instructions and ideas for patterns and colors!
