We live with an immense tension in life. On one end we have a loving, heavenly Father who promises to protect and provide for us. He pours his life and blessing upon us in his Son by the Spirit. That is the joyful side. On the other side of the tension is all the rough stuff that happens in life – suffering of various hardships. What is God up to when we find ourselves amidst this tension for prolonged seasons? Suffering is not an abstract concept when we are in pain. Life can be confoundingly painful at times. What is the Father up to? How might we be aware and respond? We will honor the complexities of life as we wrestle with this tension. Nothing is beyond his redemptive reach, even when the pain has us at our limits.
Scott Shaum, along with his wife Beth, have served with Barnabas International for over 20 years, where he is currently Director of Pastoral Advancement. He is also an ordained priest in the Anglican Church. Scott and Beth have been married 40 years, have three adult sons, two married, and four grandchildren. Scott loves long conversations over well prepared meals, a stack of books, and long walks in the mountains.
